Shri Atulbhai Kothari, founder of Mahatma Gandhi Library, Houston, met with Pareshbhai in Mumbai on Sunday, May 6, 2012. Pareshbhai will be reording at BR Studio in Mumbai on Wednesday, May 30, 2012. International Festival of Houston42nd Houston International Festival of Houston was celebrated on Apr 22-23 and 28-29. Mahatma Gandhi Library was given an opportunity to host a booth in the Kids Zone. The area around it was bustling due to many interesting activities going on in a small space. On the backside we had two music stages and in front of us , we had kids playing in the inflatables. After a slow start and some adjustments to increase the visibility of the booth, we attracted a steady stream of curious little visitors and their parents. Many children participated in Coloring and Poster contests. Lots of kids enjoyed the Gandhi's 3 monkey tattoos. Thanks to all the volunteers, the booth turned out to be good for the library. We could reach out to many new visitors. Hope some of them thought about the Gandhian principles of peace, love and non-violence. Gandhi Study Circle - May 13, 2012Instead of the scheduled discussion on chapter, Other Christian Contacts, all present decided to honor Mother's Day and discuss Gandhi's philosophy and life as relates to Mother's Day. On the surface there appears to be no connection. When you think about, however, that love and suffering are two sides of the same coin then Gandhian philosophy and the life of each other becomes inseparable. The discussion started with the basics of Gandhian philosophy that each of us should make full effort to live by one's own relative truth. Each one's truth being different ther is bound to be conflict sooner or later. From there on the group went on to discuss the Gandhian solution for conflict resolution, that I must suffer to bring about a change of heart in the opposing party to resolve the conflict. All present agreed that this is exactly what a mother does for each of her children to mold them to suceed in life. Granted there is no conflict between a child and mother, but there is always a conflict between what is best for the child and what the child actually does. A mother suffers to mold her child to do what is best for the child and what the child wants to do. For example, study rather than play, etc. We salute all mothers on this Mother's day for practicing this philosophy all their lives.
