Board Of TrusteesCharania Barkat, LLB, MD, FRCS Barkat received his medical degree in 1964 and FRCS from Royal College of Surgeons in 1971 from UK. He practiced as Orthopedic Surgeon until 1995. At present he is the Chairman of Advisory Board of Ibn Sina Foundation, Director of SIUT-NA Inc., Certified Mediator with Dispute Resolution Center and is also involved in many other charitable, social and educational activities. He is an author and has worked on faculty of Aga Khan University. He has been a volunteer with Aga Khan Development Network and has worked as consultant to UNICEF and WHO. Sanjay Jain is a native of New Delhi and a Civil Engineer from IIT Delhi, 1984. After completing MS from LSU, Baton Rouge, he worked on Space Station program and Petro Chemical software. From three he moved into Healthcare IT and retired from Cerner Corporation as Chief Architect of RIS-PACS integration system to start a chain of Subway stores. Sanjay and his wife Dr. Renu Jain started volunteering at Arya Samaj in 1994, when their older son, Aashish started attending the DAV Sanskriti School. Since then they have had many roles in the management committee of the Arya Samaj. With the founding of Mahatma Gandhi Library, Sanjay came in touch with Mr. Atul Kothari and found the vision and mission of the Mahatma Gandhi Library, very noble and in line with his values. He became a volunteer by supporting the speech contest in 2005. He has since coordinated various other activities of MGL. He enjoys time with family, especially the grown up sons.
Atul is Certified Public Accountant, CPA, licensed to practice public accounting in State of Texas, USA, since 1979. He received his MBA from University of Houston in 1977. He received his MS in Chemical Engineering from Polytechnic Institute of New York in 1975. He graduated from Indian Institute of Technology - Kanpur, India with B. Tech. in Chemical Engineering in 1974. He received his high school diploma from Sainik School Balachhadi(Jamnagar), India in 1969. Devinder (Dev) is a Professional Engineer retired from Dow Chemical USA as an Associate Consultant after 24 years of service. At present, he devotes his full time to various community service projects. He received his BS in Civil Engineering in 1962 from University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan & MS in Structural Engineering in 1963 from the same university. Devinder & his wife Sushma currently reside in Houston, Tx Ajit Paralkar is a Mechanical Engineer, has a MBA in Finance, is a Texas CPA and his professional career in finance and accounting encompasses oil and gas services, aviation, consulting, distribution, & retail industries. He has been involved in tutoring & mentoring at-risk students in the Houston, Fort Bend & Alief Independent School Districts through the Sathya Sai organization. He served on its board for 8 years and currently serves on the Community Outreach Committee. He currently serves on the Board of iEducateUSA, a non-profit committed to tutoring and mentoring young children from inner city schools in Science and Math. Richard "Dick" Steele retired from the active practice of law in 2002. He now spends his time doing pro bono legal work and working with religious and non-profit organizations. He is especially interested in interfaith relations. He is member of Live Oak Friends Meeting of Houston (Quakers), and represents South Central Yearly Meeting of Friends of The Texas Conference of Churches. He is a lay chaplain with the Community of Hope where he ministers to paroles. In addition to serving as a Trustee of The Mahatma Gandhi Library he is on the board of The American Friends Service Committee serving on the Nobel Peace Prize Committee and Friends General Conference Central Committee where he is Clerk of Friends Meeting House Fund, a mortgage company providing funds for Quaker meetings. He also is on the board of directors of Interfaith Ministries of Greater Houston, the Houston Drug Court Foundation and the American Civil Liberties Union - Houston Chapter. Namita Sutaria is a native Texan and a long time Houston resident. She started volunteering her services at a young age and then went onto be the Executive Director of Pratham USA and was integral in getting the US-based chapter up and running. A practicing Interior Designer with Laura Manchee Designs, Namita has actively given back to the design community as an Adjunct Professor of Interior Design at Houston Community College. She is also a self-taught graphic designer and owns My Kreative Style, specializing in custom invitations. Manish received his medical degree from the Baylor College of Medicine in 1994. He continued his training in Otolaryngology at the University of Tennessee School of Medicine. He is Board certified with the American Board of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. Manish is a partner with Texas, Ear, Nose & Throats Specialists, P.A. and has been in practice in West Houston since 2001. He is also an active volunteer with Faith in Practice and has participated in organized surgical mission trips yearly since 2008. |
