With this Website Kick-Off to Mahatma Gandhi Week, please register your children for the Contests this year - we have introduced a new Coloring contest for children under the age of 5.

As part of Mahatma Gandhi Week 2011, a month long celebration, a city wide speech, essay and poster contests have been organized. Heroes for Peace - Childrens Musuem of Houston

The Children's Museum opens its doors for Mahatma Gandhi Library on Sunday, September 25, 2011, between 12:00 pm and 5:00 pm. Various artists bring a variety of performances for the viewing pleasure of children young and old, all celebrating Peace. Theatre, Storytelling, and Dances highlight the day - all to commemorate heroes that stood for peace. A photographic exhibition of Mahatma Gandhi will also be on view for the day. The final Poster Contest will also be held in conjunction with the Heroes for Peace day.

Walk for Peace
Sunday, October 3, 2010 - EARLY REGISTRATION IS OPEN
Walk 5K for Peace! The Mahatma Gandhi Library Peace Walk begins at the Gandhi Statue in the Rose Garden at Hermann Park and culminates with a walk across the stage at the 1000 Lights for Peace event at Miller Outdoor Theater. Online Registration is currently ongoing and is available at www.gandhilibrary.org

1000 Lights for Peace

As we draw nearer, please mark your calendar for 1000 Lights for Peace Sunday, October 2, 2011, 6 - 8pm

Join the Greater Houston Community in conjunction with Mahatma Gandhi Library for an evening filled with multi-cultural stage shows - from a live orchestra to dances from around the world. Arts and Crafts, Face Painting, and Balloons will be available for children. End the evening with a Candle Lighting Ceremony by making your own personal vow for Peace. Since we are in the midst of planning for our 1000 Lights of Peace event at Miller Outdoor Theater, please note that we will not be having our monthly Book Club meetings. We will resume the Book Club in November.
