Mahatma Gandhi Week Contests - 2013

A project to create a higher awareness of the inspiring life and work of Mahatma Gandhi & continue his legacy of Truth, Non-Violence, Love, Service & Peace. The contest is open to all children in the greater Houston area. The winners of these citywide contests will be recognized at celebration of Mahatma Gandhi's birthday - 1000 Lights For Peace, Oct 6, 2013

Please visit Mahatma Gandhi Library booth at the following events to participate in the poster or coloring contest:

- Aug 15 (tba): Indian Independence Day, organized by ICC Houston

- Aug 28 (tba) Janmashtmi, organized by Hindus of Greater Houston

- Sept 28: Speech Contest, organized by MGL, at Arya Samaj Greater Houston.

- Sept 29: Heroes for Peace Day, organized by the Children's Museum in collaboration with MGL.

 

Ages 5 and under (born on or after Oct 2, 2007)

Coloring contest : No registration necessary, come to the venue where it is being held, open to all.
iTribute (Multimedia) Contest

High School : History of Non-Violence.
Middle School and below : Leaders of Peace.
Creative Writing / Essay Contest

High School : Power of truth within us.
Middle School and below : Is Cheating Harmful?
Speech Contest

Ages 11 and over : Is Pen Mightier than Sword?
Ages 10 and under : Non-violence is bravery.
Poster Contest

Ages 11 and over : Living in Harmony.
Ages 10 and under : Living in Peace.

The contests are open to all children in the greater Houston area and are part of the week-long, city-wide celebration of Mahatma Gandhi Week culminating on Oct 6, 2013 at the 1000 Light for Peace.

Creative Writing / Essay Contest:
In a maximum of 650 words (High School) or 400 words(Middle School and below) submit an essay on respective topic. iTribute Contest:
Submit a multimedia format presentation on respective topic with a maximum 10 minutes in length (Middle School and below) or 5 minutes in length (High School). Entry could also be submitted on a CD with all the multimedia content embedded on disc and mailed to the Library office along with a printed copy of Entry Form. Speech Contest:
In a maximum of 3 minutes deliver a speech on the respective topic. Speech will be judged on content, presentation style and delivery by a panel of judges. First place winners in each age group will also present their speech at the annual "1000 Lights for Peace" celebration. Event is planned to take place on Sat, Sept 28, 2013. Poster Contest:
Express yourself artistically on a poster by drawing, coloring, sketching, write apoem, write a prose to describe the topic. All posters must be completed in the presence of a MGLrepresentative and within 2 hours maximum. All supplies are provided. Coloring Contest:
For Children under 5 years of age, express yourself artistically on a coloringpage. All pages must be completed in the presence of a MGL representative and within 2 hours maximum.
