A project to create a higher awareness of the inspiring life and work of Mahatma Gandhi & continue his legacy of Truth, Non-Violence, Love, Service & Peace. The contest is open to all children in the greater Houston area. The winners of these citywide contests will be recognized at celebration of Mahatma Gandhi's birthday - 1000 Lights For Peace, Sunday, October 2, 2011.

The contests are open to all children in the greater Houston area and are part of the week-long, city-wide celebration of Mahatma Gandhi Week culminating on Sunday, October 2, 2011 at the 1000 Light for Peace.

Creative Writing / Essay Contest:
In a maximum of 650 words(High School) or 400 words(Middle School) present the respective topic. Essay must be typed, 12-point & double spaced with word count typed at the bottom. Entries must be submitted in the eletronic format at www.gandhilibrary.org or mailed to the Library office on a disc with attached Entry Form. iTribute Contest:
In a maximum of 10 minutes (ages 11 & up) or 5 minutes(ages 10 & below) in multimedia format present the respective topic. No late entries will be considered after Sunday, September 25th. All Entries must be accompanied by Entry Form. All the multimedia content mut be embedded on disc & mailed to the Library office. Speech Contest:
In a maximum of 3 minutes present a talk on the respective topic. The talk will be judged on content, presentation style & delivery by a panel of judges. Poster Contest:
Express your self artistically on a poster by drawing, coloring, sketching, write a poem, write a prose to describe the topic. Coloring Contest:
For Children under 5 years of age, express your self artistically on a coloring page. All pages must be completed in the presence of a MGL representative & within 2 hour. All supplies are provided. Debate Contest:
Participation by organization only with two team members. No individual participation is allowed. The team will consist of 2 members, one 'for' & the other 'against' the topic of the debate. Each speaker will be allotted 3 minitues to present opening arguments in the first round.
