Eternal Gandhi Museum - Conceptual Design

EGM Conceptual DesignEGMuseum, Garden and Out Door Classroom

Over the past few months RdlR architects team led by the Lorie Westrick have worked diligently to incorporate all our inputs and suggestions to create the best possible design for the Eternal Gandhi Museum. Thanks to their tireless efforts and creativity the above design has evolved.

Eternal Gandhi Museum - Conceptual Design - Floor Plan

EGM Floor PlanEGM is planned as a cost effective structure to be elegant in its simplicity like Gandhiji himself.

The floor plan is a simple one yet elegant! Visitors will be arriving to an open welcome lobby. They will enter the museum through a vestibule, a LEED requirement, into the lobby. Behind the lobby is the multipurpose room where the visitors will be shown an introductory film about the museum.

There will be two additional display areas on each side of the multipurpose room. The visitors will then proceed to the main museum area where the Eternal Gandhi Exhibits will be displayed.

Eternal Gandhi Museum - Conceptual Design - Aerial View

EGM Aerial ViewEGM is envisioned as a jewel among the woods. The 3 acre site will retain a natural appearance. EGM architecture and gardens together form a complete circle to represent the ethernal truth found in Gandhi's teachings.

The museum is designed to provide easy flow of visitors, especially children, to move from the parking lot to the museum.

Lamar University Students redesign MGL website

Professor Natacha Poggio attended this year's 1000 Lights for Peace event. She was so moved by the event that she met with Dr. Manish K Wani at the venue and expressed her desire to offer a class project that would help the Mahatma Gandhi Library.

After various discussions she offered to help redesign the MGL website by giving it to her students at Lamar University in Beaumont as a class project.

Eighteen students in her class formed teams and presented 11 recommendations to the MGL team on November 21, 2017.

All the students had put in a tremendous amount of effort and it showed in their presentations. MGL truly appreciates all their hard work! After a thorough review of their presentations, the MGL team will select the final design.

Dedication of Gujarati version of A Force More Powerful

A Force More Powerful

Gujarati was the mother tongue of Mahatma Gandhi. He was so proud of his mother tongue that he wrote his autobiography in Gujarati which was later translated into many languages.

"A Force More Powerful" is a documentary produced in 2000 by York and Zimmerman. It explores one of the 20th century's most important but least understood stories: how nonviolent power has overcome oppression and authoritarian rule all over the world. Narrated by Ben Kingsley, and nominated for an Emmy, A Force More Powerful premiered on PBS in September 2000.

The series explores six successful nonviolent movements in the 20th century, including Mohandas Gandhi's leadership of the Indian Independence movement, the Civil Rights Movement, the boycotts in the Eastern Cape Province as part of the Anti-Apartheid movement in South Africa, the Danish resistance to Nazi Occupation, the Polish Solidarity Movement, and the Chilean democracy movement to oust Augusto Pinochet.

It is with pride we are happy to announce that the documentary is now available in Gujarati, Mahatma Gandhi's mother tongue. On Saturday, November 18, 2017 dedication of the Gujarati dubbed version of A Force More Powerful took place at the meeting of Gujarati Sahitya Sarita, a group of Gujarati Poets.

It was dedicated by Dr. Kamlesh Lulla, NASA's chief scientist. In the picture you see Dr. Lulla holding the DVD and Atul Kothari, Trustee of Mahatma Gandhi Library. To obtain a copy of the same please reply to this e mail.
